San Diego SMALL BUSINESS
Point Loma Credit Union will sponsor a free seminar on March 4 to introduce its new Small Business Administration loan program. It will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Point Loma Credit Union, 9420 Farnham St., San Diego.
Ruben Garcia, San Diego district director of the SBA, will give an overview of SBA loans, and Monty Dickinson, president of SCORE San Diego, will provide information about SCORE San Diego’s workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions. The free seminar is open to the public and will include a question-and-answer session by a panel of three local, small business owners.
Amy Alexander, business service specialist with PLCU, says that small businesses and prospective entrepreneurs should be aware of the benefits of an SBA loan. "SBA loans often have a lower interest rate and require a lower down payment than typical commercial loans," says Alexander. "PLCU has money to lend and, for business owners with the right concept and tools, we are here to help."
Since small business owners are required to present a business plan when requesting an SBA loan, understanding how to develop a winning plan is critical, says Dickinson. "Through our one-on-one counseling sessions and ‘Business Plan 101: How to Write a Winning Business Plan’ workshops, SCORE San Diego is an enormous resource to help entrepreneurs prepare for the approval process," says Dickinson.
Garcia says the seminar is a great collaboration between SCORE San Diego, the SBA and PLCU. "We are gratified by the growth and participation of PLCU in providing SBA loans to its members. Credit unions just recently began participating with the SBA and we are appreciative of this joint effort with SCORE San Diego to expose potential entrepreneurs to what is available to them."
